Board Approves Route 50 Blueprint

The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors approved a plan Tuesday to remake a commercial area south and west of Dulles International Airport into a pedestrian-friendly corridor with apartments, shops, office jobs and nightlife. The blueprint, approved by a vote of 5 to 4, calls for high-density condominiums and high-end retail and office development on 1,500 acres along Route 50 from the Fairfax County line west to Lenah Road, past the village of Arcola....Buchanan, a Gaithersburg-based developer, owns nearly 400 acres in the area in question and has plans to develop residential, office, retail and industrial facilities there. "It's going to have a historical architectural flavor to it," said Bob Buchanan. "It's going to have a mix of uses in both residential and retail that will be attractive and highly desirable."
