Health Data Firm MedAssurant to Move HQ to Bowie

An Annapolis health care data company is moving its headquarters to Bowie and bringing along as many as 500 employees -- making it the city's largest private employer. 

MedAssurant Inc.'s presence in Prince George's County's largest municipality may not stop there.

After the company moves its headquarters this summer into nearly all of the 100,000 square feet remaining at the Bowie Corporate Center, it wants to find up to 100,000 more square feet by year's end to absorb an expected doubling of its local work force....

Buchanan Partners got site approval for the 126,000-square-foot Bowie Corporate Center, at 4321 Collington Road, in 2004 and won LEED certification last year at an extra price of up to $15 per square foot, or nearly $1.9 million.

After nailing its first tenant last April, Buchanan had leased only about a fifth of the Class A building before signing Med­Assurant. Now there is just 1,280 square feet left on the first floor to be leased.
